Matthew 20:17-19

As Jesus' earthly ministry began to wind down He told His disciples three times that He would be crucified. He knew He would die and He knew why. As we approach Easter we too should know why He died and what difference it makes in our lives.

I. Jesus knew how He would die.
     A. To be "lifted up" (crucified) John 12:20-32
     B. At Jerusalem. Matthew 16:21-28
     C. As prophesied. Psalm 22:14-18

II. To seek and to save the lost.
     A. As Moses lifted up the serpent. John 3:14
     B. Bearing our sins. 1 Peter 2:24
     C. While we were still sinners. Romans 5:6-11

III. To give us new life.
     A. To deliver us from this present age. Galatians 1:3-5
     B. To purify us. Titus 2:11-14
     C. We receive life by faith. Galatians 2:20

Let us celebrate Easter as the memorial of our rescue. We have been brought from death to life because of Jesus' death and resurrection. It is the heart of the good news
